Rope skimmers are made of oleophilic polypropylene fibres with excellent oleophilic properties and remain oleophilic after being stained with oil. With a specific gravity of approximately 0.9, the rope floats on the water surface and moves with the waves to maintain contact with the oil spill.

The rope works at temperatures between -35 and 70°C and can recover oil spills under ice.
The skimming process is not affected by debris and can meander between objects, floating debris and absorb oil; oil spills can be recovered in more confined spaces (e.g. deep wells).

Trolley and suspended skimmers are available. Trolley skimmers are fixed on shore or on board and recover oil spills from the water surface by means of floating guide wheels and long skimmer ropes; suspended skimmer ropes dangle from the surface of the oil spill and are easy to operate and can be adapted to more difficult conditions.
